Alankaram is a firm engaged in solid wood furniture designing and manufacturing. Established in October 2015, it has so far led to one of India’s largest collections of wooden furniture with 1700 SKUs, and one of the biggest manufacturing units measuring 2,00,000 square feet. Alankaram is headed by Ar. Anupriya Sahu, an architect with Masters from SPA, Delhi. She has a strong belief that designs should combine aesthetics, ergonomics, strength, and relevance. She has a keen interest in detail which manifests clearly in her designs.
Alankaram stands out with its contemporary, minimalistic designs and elegant usage of joineries, which is used not only for strength but also to lend a certain aesthetic appeal to the furniture. While the designs feature Indian influences, they are thoroughly modern and contemporary in appearance. Alankaram makes furniture in Indian (e.g. Teak wood) as well as imported wood (e.g. White oak), which is treated and seasoned in order to increase the life of the furniture. The firm specialises in the use of different woods and colours in a single piece of furniture. All of Alankaram’s furniture is produced in their factory in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, which offers employment to mostly locals and women. They uphold sustainable practices by sourcing their wood from government auctions or FSC certified sources.
