design pataka # 6 – marry me – the store

We caught up with Candice Pereira to take us through her new store – Marry Me. This adorable vintage french themed store has been conceptualised by her and executed by her husband and business partner, Jarret D’Abreo. Sitting inside Candies on Pali Hill, Mumbai, there is a constant buzz as everyone keeps peeping into this delightful store.
We do a tour of the store with her. The anteroom has an old wooden bench which was a piece from her own house. It has been refurbished a little to fix the colour. The cycle is the last piece from many that were created for a wedding. The couple had customised the cycle out of cast iron. A table with floral tiles fixed on are kept to place the baggage your carrying around. The birdcages were initially not for sale. But after heavy demand they have been reordered to sell.

Selling everything from cushions; a bath and body range; scented candles; packaging ideas; hair accessories; trunks; stationary. It is the perfect gift store.

A three tiered table is placed in the center of the room. Made out of a cast iron grill and a wooden edge (specially created). A classic chandelier illuminates the table beautifully. The floral wallpaper is very different from what is used largely. Very simple. No bling. You can find similar wallpapers at Artisan. The store is predominantly white which keeps the small space light and products more visible.

An old vintage sewing machine has been refurbished and used as a display unit. The drawers have been opened and cute accessories have been placed inside for display. A Tea Table from her house has been incorporated in. You can try finding something similar at Chor Bazaar or D.C Batliwala and Co. (FYI they also rent out furniture), Mumbai

Another very good and simple idea is the ladder. In this case it has been specially created. But you can also use one lying around and get it repainted. Small pieces have been displayed on it. Every store needs ample storage otherwise the store can look messy. Candice has utlised the space available very practically. The niche on top displays cushions and has not gone wasted. The crates created by them stock all their inventory. French lettering has been stenciled on to give authencity.
These Unique Paris inspired travel bags and jewellery boxes are very pretty and popular. You can also get yourself one at around Rs 300-1500.
I love the typewriter too but sadly it is not for sale! Go look in the attic and you may find one for yourself. The hand picked stationary is priced anywhere from Rs 50-800.
Paris themed hooks. You can stick them on anywhere. The kitchen, bathroom or in your closet.
Royal Elephant Stationary!
The Marry Me bath and body range. Soaps to Moisturisers, you can find et al. All Organic! Ranging from Rs 80-1200.
Green Tea Pot Pourri along with many other fragrances are priced at Rs 150-300 a box.
