Andre Fu

Born in Hong Kong but educated for the most part in Europe, Andre Fu has developed a unique stereoscopic ability to do more than fuse the two cultures. His trademark style includes an ability to balance light, space and proportion to create sensuous and luxurious spaces. In 2000 he founded his own design studio, AFSO to create individual projects for his ever-growing list of clients. Today AFSO is known for its individual and sumptuous work in the hospitality industry thanks to collaborations with The Four Seasons, Shangri-La and Park Hyatt Hotel groups. AFSO aims to draw from history to create modernity and with Andre Fu’s playful reinterpretations they design spaces that indulge and inspire.

Design Pataki caught up with some of this year’s speakers at Design Shanghai to learn a bit more about their craft. In the conversation with Andre Fu –

  1. Could you elaborate on “the pursuit of relaxed luxury”?

Relaxed luxury is a new generation of luxury that goes beyond the superficial – experiences that are genuine, honest, and lush.

  1. How would you describe your home?

I would describe my home in three words: pure, free-spirited, artisanal.

  1. If you weren’t an architect who would you be?

I would definitely love to be a landscape designer.
