ARCTIC DESIGN WEEK
The Arctic Design Week is the world’s northernmost forum of design. The aim is to promote northern design expertise and business, while inspiring designers, students, scientists and artists. Arctic Design Week enlivens town culture with local characteristics. The week brings together professionals in the field of design to discuss possibilities and future of Arctic Design together with businesses and citizens. ADW presents design talks and workshops, design exhibitions, pop-up design shops and restaurants, an arctic fashion show and a number of other events. The week creates food for thought and soul.
The Arctic climate offers enormous possibilities, but also poses some intriguing challenges for design from the viewpoints of housing, construction, infrastructure, travel, wellbeing and tourism. With the temperature well below zero, the landscape covered with pure white snow, daylight hours minimal, and night skies lit with Aurora Borealis in the winter, or quite the opposite, with 24h sunlight in the summertime, Rovaniemi is precisely the right platform for arctic design.
