The Venice Architecture Biennale, being held in Venice at the Giardini and Arsenale venues, and other locations in Venice from May 26th to November 25th, 2018 is the 16th International Architecture Exhibition curated by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara and organized by La Biennale di Venezia. The theme this year is titled “Free Space”. The exhibition explores questions of space, the quality of space and open and free space. The curators have used the manifesto “Free space” issued in 2017 as a reference point to put this exhibition together. The exhibition includes 71 participants who will be joined by others gathered in two Special Sections: the first, numbering 16 participants, is titled Close Encounter, meetings with remarkable projects and will present works that originate in a reflection on well-known buildings of the past; the second, which counts 13 participants and is titled The Practice of Teaching, will collect projects developed as part of teaching experiences. The theme “Freespace” is the guiding force and the centre around which all the exhibits involved will revolve. It is an event to highly watch out for with its diverse participants each interpreting the theme in their own way and giving way to a discussion about the concept of a free space itself and its relevance in today’s modern spaces.
