Amidst the bustling lanes of Bandra, Mumbai lays this residence that perfectly blends Indian design with a contemporary style. Designed by designer Kavita Singh, this home gives you a feeling of openness and warmth. As you enter you are introduced into a world of lotuses, subtly placed around the house. In the lobby, there are inlays on the floor & a pichwai painting to greet you. As you take a left and move into the dinning a laser cut panel follows with antique painted panels and a hand painted dome atop the dinning table. To the right of the lobby you enter a spacious living area with a panoramic view of the city extending to the ocean. This area brings you a mix of contemporary sofas with antique pieces such as an antique silver temple and carved door used as a bar shutter all in neutral colours with a splash or brunt orange to bring some warmth. To the far end lies a stylized corner with a high back embroidered chair with a footstool, a beautiful wooden sculpture of a Buddha and a stunning sandstone planter. The walls are adorned with a range of art from Souza to Ravi Varma.
The master bedroom is beautifully decorated in pinks and purples with a carved wooden headboard, chanderi curtains, beveled mirror shutters with a beautiful venetian mirror. Whereas the bathroom is all white with splashes of blue. It has a beautiful porcelain hand painted basin with blue motifs painted on the ceiling.
The daughter’s room is decorated in oranges and yellows with morocco lights and a beautiful mirror panel headboard with a nice walk-in wardrobe. The bathroom is yellow and black with a stunning brass lotus for a basin and lotus shaped mirror pieces embedded into the wall.
Moving to the other area of the house, which is meant for the son, you enter into world of movies. There area Audrey Hepburn pictures framed on the wall balanced by Sunil Das charcoal paintings. Retro style seating decorated with cushions featuring famous actors such as James Dean surrounds a Marilyn Monroe coffee table. The bedroom has a more rustic look with textured walls, carved wooden shutters, denim bed spread and canvas curtains. The bed is a Balinese style two-layered bed made out of textured wood. The walls are decorated with rustic looking 3D paintings made on wood. The bathroom is a chic large black and white space with a long counter top complimented by a long with ceramic basin, a tub and another Sunil Das charcoal painting.
The use of different styles of design all blending into seamlessly into one another is the beauty of this house.
