This all natural home has been designer by dancer & architect Meenakshi Srinivasan, Calm Studio. Located next to a forest in Kodiakanal, the house is constructed on a slope giving a birds eye view of the forest below and around. There are two connected wings. One for the guest bedrooms and lounge. The other with the master suite facing the forest. The arrival is private so you don’t see what lies beyond. The main living and dining area are contained within a transparent volume that has a floating roof – inserted into this is a core box with the kitchen and utility functions.
We love the two tone cement used at the entrance flanked by a traditional stone piece for diyas. It is the perfect blend between natural design and culture. Meenakshi has kept the elements as natural as possible. With use of local stone, exposed concrete and timber. Every get-a-way home must make you feel one with nature. They have used furniture crafted by local carpenters. Bringing in a local flavor in a summer home always works well.
