Pioneers of the centuries-old Chesterfield technique in India, Chester’s is a maker of fine furniture, producing timeless European styles since 1985. The Bangalore-based company has a mission to deliver luxury furniture by honouring India’s rich traditions of craft, styles, and ergonomics. Every piece of furniture is thoughtfully designed and handcrafted by skilled craftspeople in the Chester’s workshops. Chester’s is the sole furniture maker in India to have worked with mouton fauve, the renowned French lambskin leather coveted for its unique finish and ageing qualities. Across workshops, their experienced upholsterers, joiners and hand dyers continue to develop and produce the timeless designs that first inspired our journey into furniture making. The luxury of a Chester’s piece comes from the weeks and months spent in preparing the leather and frames which are then crafted into a perfect form.
At their core, Chester’s pieces are sustainable; made to be enjoyed by generations and to develop their own unique patina with age, with wear, and with use.
Founder of Chester’s, M.V. Ramaswamy has upheld one important directive throughout his career – taking time. Nothing from Chester’s comes off an assembly line. Each piece is intentionally made and derives its value from the skills of carpenters, upholsterers, and leather experts, who have perfected their skills over the course of collective lifetimes.
