The Wicker Story
The Wicker Story is a symbiotic amalgamation of art, architecture, and product in the precinct of craft and parametric design methodology. It is a celebration of culture, colour, tradition, and values in India through design. The brainchild of Prelab Design Studio which is a multidisciplinary design practice based out of Hyderabad, The Wicker Story was founded in 2019 by Priyanka Narula. It started as a response to a prolonged quest to define the future of design in the Indian context. Their work involves the translation of digital processes for easy adaptability to Indian craft and material systems. Their Imli Bench, for example, features the technique of cane weaving which is traditional to most parts of India and adapts it to a design that is complex and new from a global market standard.
Apart from being an effective tool to realise customized and complex geometries, The Wicker Story also transcends scale and geometry, while defining new protocols for design. Their products are 100% sustainable and offer a zero-waste production methodology.
