A home rarely reveals its personality all at once. It gathers it slowly, through the things we choose to live with, a vase for the way its surface catches the light, a lamp for the shadow it casts across a wall, an object with no real function beyond making a corner feel unmistakably yours. It is this gradual accumulation that gives a space its character, where the smallest details can often say as much as the larger gestures. Whispering Homes has built its design language around this idea, creating objects that invite you to look a little closer, choose a little more intuitively, and let a home become a reflection of the person living in it.

From The Little Things To A Design Language

The brand was founded in 2021 by Ashima Singla, alongside co-founders Mohit Bansal and Kunal Bansal, working out of Chandigarh and Mohali during the pandemic. “People were spending entire days inside their homes and beginning to notice, often for the first time, what those homes actually looked like,” Singla recalls. “We wanted good design to be something you could simply order, not something that requires a designer or a showroom visit.” That instinct translated into something concrete: a modest opening collection of vases and dried florals. From there, the brand expanded with intent into premium and functional lighting, the category that has since come to define much of its identity.

A knack for restraint went on to shape the brand’s aesthetic point of view early on. “We were never interested in the heavily ornate or the mass-produced,” Singla explains. “What we wanted was warmth without excess, pieces with enough restraint to fit into a modern home, but made from materials with real texture and history to them.”

Today, that approach has taken Whispering Homes from private residences to hospitality projects including Taj and Club Mahindra, as well as developments by Isprava and Sobha Limited and projects by practices such as kaviar: collaborative, Studio Kalagya and The House of Eisa.

The Warmth Of Terracotta
Their approach is particularly evident in Whispering Homes’ terracotta collection. Hand-shaped by local Indian artisans, each piece retains the subtle variations, raw textures and earthy character of the material, bringing the warmth of traditional craft into contemporary interiors.

Rather than leaning rustic, the vases use sculptural forms and considered finishes to sit comfortably within modern spaces, offering an interpretation of luxury rooted in craftsmanship and natural materials. It is this interplay of material, form and atmosphere that also comes through in the brand’s lighting, where a functional object can become a defining element of a space.

When Lighting Becomes The Focal Point

Among the brand’s current offerings, crystal light fixtures are finding particular traction with both homeowners and designers. Its appeal is easy to understand. A crystal chandelier can turn an otherwise restrained dining room into a theatrical setting, while a smaller crystal wall light can introduce the same faceted, light-catching quality without requiring the scale of a chandelier.

This thinking led to Whispering Homes’ crystal wall light collection that brings a sense of sculptural drama to hallways, vanities and accent walls. “There’s something about the way it transforms a space. It instantly lifts the mood of a room and gives it a sense of occasion,” says Singla. 

But crystal is just one expression of a much broader lighting collection, which moves across chandeliers, wall sconces, pendant lights and outdoor fixtures, and from the pared-back appeal of Scandinavian and Japandi styles to the richness of Alabaster and Modern Glam.

When The Design Moves Outdoors

“Outdoor lighting is usually an afterthought,” Singla says. But architectural lighting should never stop at the doorway. For Whispering Homes, outdoor spaces are treated with the exact same aesthetic weight and sculptural intent as an indoor living space. Rather than treating exterior fixtures as mere functional utility, the brand’s collection of wall-mounted sconces, hanging lanterns, gate pillars and landscape pole lights are designed as architectural accents. These pieces are crafted to frame grand entrances, highlight textured facades, and cast dramatic shadows across gardens after dark, extending the home’s interior ambiance into the surrounding landscape.

From Collections To Custom Pieces

The next step for Whispering Homes is to take that approach further through bespoke, made-to-measure lighting installations. The brand has already undertaken custom work over the years, from chandeliers sized precisely to individual spaces to project lighting and thematic installations developed around a particular brief.

The ambition now is to make custom lighting more accessible. “Custom shouldn’t mean unattainable,” believes Singla. For a homeowner or designer working with an unusual ceiling height, a specific architectural condition or a larger-scale interior, custom lighting can offer a degree of control that an off-the-shelf fixture cannot. It also brings the brand’s larger idea full circle, giving people more freedom to find or create pieces that make a space feel distinctly their own.

Since beginning with a small collection of vases and dried florals in 2021, Whispering Homes has grown into a nationwide design brand, with annual sales now . Over the past year, the business has grown by roughly 30 per cent crossing the ₹10 crore mark, with a community of more than 8,000 customers. From homeowners looking for a single piece to designers sourcing lighting and decor for larger projects its greatest contribution may be this simple shift, giving them the freedom to bring their own sense of character to a space, one detail at a time.
