Concept is the new currency of luxury travel—and the most compelling hotels today don’t simply host you, they immerse you in a point of view. The shift is subtle but decisive: from opulence to orchestration, from amenities to emotion. Consider Magna Pars – L’Hotel à Parfum, one of the most poetic expressions of this evolution. Here, the journey begins not at reception, but within the LabSolue perfume laboratory, where guests are invited to select their suite guided by their most cherished scent, steering them towards a new way of sensing and connecting. Designed by the world’s most well-known nose, LabSolue Perfume Laboratory houses 68 rare essences. Set between Via Tortona’s creative pulse and the quiet elegance of Via Forcella, the hotel honours its industrial past while embracing a serene, almost monastic minimalism. Light, silence, and scent move in quiet harmony.
There is a legacy beneath the experience. Since 1945, the Martone family has shaped the language of Italian fragrance, collaborating with houses such as Gianni Versace, Romeo Gigli, Gianfranco Ferré, Bulgari and Salvatore Ferragamo. In 2013, that heritage was reimagined by a new generation, transforming a former factory into the world’s first Hotel à Parfum, where memory, design, and emotion are distilled into air itself. And yet, Magna Pars is part of a broader movement—one where the destination is no longer defined by geography alone, but by sensation that shapes refined experiences for that luxury traveller.

Olfactory Check-in

The journey begins with an olfactory check-in at the LabSolue Perfume Laboratory within Magna Pars – L’Hotel à Parfum—a ritual that replaces the conventional front desk with something far more sensorial. Guests are invited to select their suite based on their olfactory preferences, from a collection of precious Olfactory volumes, each one a tribute to Italian landscapes and artisanal savoir-faire. The principal architect was Luciano Maria, while Ambra Martone serves as the creative director and Giorgia Martone designed the olfactory concept of the hotel.
The fragrances unfold across four distinct olfactory islands—Fruits & Aromatics, Flowers, Woods, and Resins—expressed through Eaux de Parfum, home fragrances, artisan candles, and delicately scented amenities. Magna Pars opens onto lush inner gardens, a botanical story that unfolds with the changing seasons. Centuries-old olive trees, amber-toned liquidambar, osmanthus, and climbing jasmine enrich the space, deepening the hotel’s perfume narrative. Every scent evokes the memory of its past as a perfume factory, transforming the greenery into a natural extension of the olfactory experience.
At the heart of it all lies the laboratory itself: an intimate, light-filled space reminiscent of an old apothecary, where wooden cabinets, archival drawers, glass display cases, and amber bottles create an almost reverential atmosphere. Here, under the guidance of an expert LabTender, guests are invited to explore raw materials, essential oils, and tools of perfumery. Fragrances are filled, packaged, and labelled on the spot—transforming creation into ceremony. In the pauses between, there is a small, thoughtfully assembled library dedicated to the art of perfumery—an invitation to linger and deepen the sensory journey.
Luxury Suites Follow The Alchemy Of Notes

At Magna Pars – L’Hotel à Parfum, each of the 68 suites is conceived as an olfactory narrative, dedicated to a singular raw material used in perfumery. Whether expressed through the delicacy of a flower, the quiet strength of a wood, or the enveloping sweetness of a resin. It lingers in the air, subtly echoed in artists’ paintings, textures, and even in thoughtful touches such as the book ‘The Grammar of Perfumes’ as a coffee table read that opens as an invitation to discovery of luxury fragrances. Here, luxury is not simply seen but often breathed.

Among the most emblematic is the Presidential Suite 16 Oud, an expansive two-level residence devoted to one of perfumery’s most precious resins. Bathed in natural light from wide windows that open onto inner gardens or private terraces, the suite unfolds into an all-white white sprawling space where aromatherapeutic properties encourage deep heightened sensory awareness, and help rebalance inner energy. Think leather seating, curated bookcases, a bar corner, and a distinct living area that leads into a secluded bedroom and generously appointed bathrooms. The upper floor features a skylight loft room.
The palette is instinctively attuned to its olfactory signature concepts, while bespoke furnishings crafted by master cabinetmakers from Lombardy celebrate the depth of Italian artisanal expertise. The result is a space that feels at once grounded and transportive, where design, material, and fragrance exist in seamless harmony.
Olfactive Aperitifs Meeting the Art of Perfumery

On the third floor, suspended between the Secret Gardens and the storied Ringhiera houses of old Milan, LabSolue Bar and Roof Terrace reveals itself as a quietly elevated retreat. The air is perfumed with climbing jasmine and Mediterranean olive trees, enveloping a glass-wrapped winter veranda that, with the change of season, dissolves into a chic summer terrace. At its core is the Olfactive Aperitif—an original concept that reimagines the Milanese ritual of aperitivo hour through the lens of haute perfumery. Here, cocktails are composed like fragrances, which become an ingredient. Each glass begins with an olfactory note, meticulously translated into layers of taste, texture, and emotion, drawing from the essences of the LabSolue Perfume Laboratory and paired with refined finger food.

Must-try cocktails —”202 FICO”, inspired by LabSolue’s 202 FICO fragrance: a unique blend of flavours that evokes the luxurious scent of the Mediterranean summer. It blends tequila infused with fig leaves, Campari, and Vermouth di Torino, creating a perfect balance of bold flavours and aromatic nuances. The “102 Mandarino” cocktail is a fresh and citrusy creation. Think: a mandarin-infused vodka, clementine extract, lime juice, clementine syrup, and green mandarin leaf essence.
The mixology experience extends to a bar lounge and indoor winery, Liquidambar, which takes its name from a tree species found in the hotel’s garden, producing a resin that gives off a warm, balsamic scent when burnt. Looking out towards its namesake, the bar is cut from blocks of white onyx and backed by mirrors. There are plenty of stools and lounge chairs to lounge in, but the best seat in the house has to be the high-backed sofa upholstered in red velvet. The cocktail menu changes regularly, showcasing a wide variety of fragrant and exotic ingredients. The other big attraction is the open-plan wine cellar featuring 600 bottles of the finest Italian wines.

Walk across the open lobby, anchored by the striking bronze horse by Gustavo Aceves—a mutilated horse that expresses in their gravity, the universal pain of forced migration. The gaze is then drawn upward to the monumental steel installation ‘The Power of Three’ by the Albanian-born sculptor Helidon Xhixha, who creates three-dimensional steel installations where the stainless steel is the guiding thread of the artistic practice and whose mirrored surfaces capture and refract light in constant dialogue with the surrounding space. In the Balcony Hall, a dedicated event venue, the sculptural intensity of ‘Gravitas,’ a masterpiece by Matteo Pugliese, emerges as men figures, caught in a moment of tension, appear to emerge from a material barrier, embodying a visceral struggle for rebirth, expression, and liberation. While another master collection at the balcony hall is Cage N.1 by Daniele Accossato, which emerges as angel wings caged inside a wooden case. Another contemporary art piece is seen at the Bibliotheca or the library lounge is that of the Italian contemporary artist, Omar Hassan, titled ‘Breaking Through’, a work on canvas using boxer gloves soaked in paint, a medium replaced by brush.
The Menu à Parfum Echoes The Language of Haute Cuisine

At Da Noi, the hotel’s refined signature restaurant, the Executive Chef orchestrates a deeply sensorial dining experience with the exclusive Menù à Parfum. Here, the Italian ingredients are elevated through a subtle yet sophisticated olfactory dimension, paired with a striking aesthetic that pays homage to the art of perfumery.

Each dish is conceived as a composition. At the table, the rituals of the perfume laboratory are reimagined with quiet theatricality – a glass dropper delicately dispenses аromatic oils onto a plate, an inverted funnel becomes a cloche, releasing aromatic smoke from selected woods, while a beaker is transformed into an elegant vessel for sauces. Seasonal, impeccably sourced ingredients are interpreted with precision and creativity, resulting in a cuisine that moves seamlessly between heritage and innovation. Cuisine here becomes a sensory narrative—each dish an olfactory story translated onto the plate. Consider the wild, marine freshness of ‘309 Timo,’ the inhouse essence, expressed through a delicate julienne of calamari with artichoke heart and thyme; or the silvery luminosity of ‘201 Ulivo,’ reimagined as a basil risotto crowned with scallops, gently smoked over olive wood.
The composition continues with the vibrant citrus lift of ‘102 Mandarino,’ illuminating steamed lobster paired with crisp seasonal vegetables, avocado, bergamot air, and mandarin gel. To conclude, the soft, enveloping allure of ‘304 Vaniglia’ unfolds in a refined dessert of chestnut and hazelnut mousse, accompanied by a pink vanilla chocolate fondue. Each creation is an alchemy of fragrance, flavour, and memory intertwined in a seamless expression of modern Italian haute cuisine.
Throughout the hotel, art is woven into the very fabric of the experience, inviting guests into a world where colours dance and scents tell stories, all shaped by a spirit of experimentation and a deep sensitivity to art—an expression that celebrates the pulsating, creative, and fashionable soul of Milan.
